Supported Employment

Finding a fulfilling job is an important component of living a meaningful life. It provides a sense of purpose while building in a much-needed routine and structure. At LIFE, we believe that everyone deserves the chance to answer the question, “So what do you do for a living?”
Our employment team helps adults with autism, learning and intellectual disabilities pursue a job they truly want, in an environment they want to be in. To accomplish this, building and sustaining partnerships with local businesses is of upmost importance.
The LIFE employment team is constantly nurturing local business relationships to help individuals find a job that is suited to their unique strengths. Our philosophy is “The right job, not the first job”. It’s important to remember that the process takes time as we ensure that we are setting LIFE individuals up for success in a job that they can maintain for a long time.
LIFE’s individualized employment support includes discovery and assessment, job coaching, and job development.
For individuals who are exploring their preferred work environments, interests, and a general assessment of their strengths, we offer a Community-based Day Services (CBDS) program in Plymouth, MA and on Cape Cod in Sandwich, MA.

“Working with my LIFE Employment Coach has provided valuable guidance and support in managing my job and responsibilities as a Pre-K teacher assistant at a local childcare center.
With her support, I also completed a certification that allows me to take on additional responsibilities. LIFE staff also helped me build my skills, confidence, and independence in the workplace.”
Stephanie Polito, LIFE participant

Hunter is an active member of the LIFE supported independent living community. She receives supported employment services and has a paid position at Panera Bread, where she is a valued employee.

“In our daughter’s five+ years of employment, she has expanded her skills to be able to work in every department at Marshalls, including the challenge of working with both customers and other employees. Furthermore, they have personally assisted her in improving her fine motor skills in so many different ways!
With the LIFE employment staff’s steadfast and consistent specific support, she has been able to maintain and expand her skills.
We could not be more grateful for this SIL Employment team that has brought our daughter farther than we could imagine. Hannah beams with pride when asked about her employment and volunteerism, and in addition to providing her with necessary income, it has become a primary stimulator of conversation when she is with peers, family, and friends in our community!”
With deep gratitude,
Maria And David O’Laughlin
