Community-based Day Services (CBDS)

Community-Based Day Services (CBDS) emphasizes paid employment as an outcome. It is a pass-through program that works on the discovery of likes and dislikes, preferred work environments, and a general assessment of one’s strengths.
Discovery, by design, takes a while as we learn about each individual. Discovery is combined with volunteerism to work on job skills and work ethic, leading to the ultimate goal of paid employment for adults with intellectual disabilities.
Please note, this is not a day program and therefore is not structured hour by hour. This is a skill development program, which is done at various sites around the community, with each skill being incorporated into a wide range of activities. LIFE has partnerships with a range of nonprofit organizations including National Marine Life Center, Massachusetts Military Support Foundation, and Meals-on-Wheels.
The LIFE CBDS offices are located in Plymouth, MA, at Cordage Park, within walking distance of the Plymouth station on the Plymouth/Kingston commuter rail line, and on Cape Cod in Sandwich, MA.

“Through the support of the LIFE program and the dedication of his job coach, Patti Loring, Andy was able to turn his interests and abilities into meaningful employment and greater independence.
With guidance from Patti, Andy explored employment opportunities, identified his strengths, and worked toward a job goal that was meaningful to him. The support he received went beyond simply helping him find a job but to also develop the skills, confidence, and independence necessary to pursue his own goals.
One of Andy’s accomplishments was becoming a Notary Public, allowing him to develop a service-based business and create an opportunity to earn income independently. With encouragement and employment support, he researched the requirements, completed the necessary certification, and began working toward establishing his own notary business.
The LIFE program and his job coach provided the guidance and encouragement needed while allowing Andy to take ownership of his goals and accomplishments.“
