Incorporated in 1992, LIFE opened a first-of-its-kind Supported Independent Living (SIL) program for 10 adults with intellectual disabilities and autism in Hyannis in 1993.

LIFE Cape Cod serves adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities – we are not a senior living or assisted living community.

By 1996, our Hyannis location on Cape Cod more than doubled in physical size and the number of individuals seeking turning 22 programs. The Hyannis supported community living program currently serves over 40 individuals in our residential program and off-campus residents supported by LIFE Coaches.

LIFE Hyannis is a lively and active community with an on-site gym, recreation room, community kitchen, and outdoor pavilion, which frequently hosts shared meals, birthday parties, outdoor movie night, and social gatherings.

Supported employment services are also conveniently located on-site at this Cape Cod location, where LIFE adults with autism, learning, and intellectual disabilities meet with their LIFE Job Coaches to pursue a job they truly want, in an environment they want to be in. 

This independent living community is located in a quiet neighborhood close to local shops, restaurants, nature trails, and public transportation for access to employment opportunities. Our seaside town has beautiful nearby beaches to relax and swim, including Kalmus Beach. 

The HyArts Artist Shanties (which feature artwork created by LIFE individuals), as well as the local boutiques and a wide variety of restaurants on Hyannis’ vibrant Main Street, offer numerous opportunities for friends to be part of the greater community with shopping, social outings, and employment opportunities.

There is a lot of local history to explore at the John F. Kennedy Hyannis Museum, as well as opportunities for day excursions to enjoy a cruise with friends and explore the local islands of Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket.

Local transportation options include Cape Cod Regional Transit Authority (CCRTA), Uber and Lyft.
