Employment
Finding a fulfilling job is an important component of living a meaningful life. It provides a sense of purpose while building in a much-needed routine and structure. At LIFE we believe that everyone deserves the chance to answer the question, “So what do you do for a living?”
Our employment team helps residents pursue a job they truly want, in an environment, they want to be in. To accomplish this, building and sustaining partnerships with local businesses is of upmost importance. The employment team is constantly working on nurturing those relationships in order to help residents find a job that is suited to their unique strengths.
Our philosophy is The Right Job, not the First Job. It is important to remember that the process takes time, however, as we want to ensure that we are setting people up for success in a job that they can maintain for a long time.
CBDS
CBDS is a community-based day service that emphasizes paid employment as an outcome. It is a “pass-through” program, that works on the discovery of likes and dislikes, preferred work environments, and a general assessment of one’s strengths.
Discovery, by design, takes a while as we are learning all about an individual. Our mantra is The Right Job, Not the First Job. Discovery is combined with volunteerism to work on job skills and work ethic, leading to the ultimate goal of paid employment.
Please note, this is not a day program and therefore is not structured hour by hour. This is a skill development program, which is done at various sites around the community, with each skill being incorporated into a wide range of activities.
If you are interested in Employment Services and CBDS (Community Based Day Supports) services, please complete this Referral Form. An intake will be arranged after receipt of the referral. If you have any questions, please contact Joshua Skolnick, Director of Community Supports, office tel. 508-418-5673, cell 774-383-4604, email, or contact us for general information.
Individual Supports
The Individual Supports program provides one to one and favorable ratio opportunities for adults with learning disabilities to work toward developing their daily living skills with the goal of becoming as independent as possible. Individual Supports participants live independently, with family. The Individual Supports program is highly customizable, and activities, approaches, and services are tailored to suit the needs of each participant, and their family.
Our goal is for our clients to develop competency in areas such as financial management, meal preparation, self-advocacy, transportation, and other skills necessary for being an independent adult. Individual Support program staff work with clients both one to one and group settings toward maintaining a healthy lifestyle, engaging in social activities, and living a full and fulfilling life. Group activities such as meals, activities, and fitness are part of our weekly program.
Agency with Choice
LIFE offers Agency With Choice (AWC) services for applicants referred through the Department of Developmental Services (DDS). Based on the concepts of self-determination and self-direction, AWC empowers the individual and family to take an active role in the design, implementation, and evaluation of their services.
LIFE ‘s AWC services are offered through our Individualized Day Supports and Individualized Home Supports programs. Acting as a consultant to the AWC individual and family, LIFE will leverage its community network and professional experience to assist the individual in meeting his or her goals. As the Employer of Record, LIFE will also provide all training, human resource services, and record-keeping required by DDS.
LIFE has always believed that when the individual participates in the direction of his or her services, success is not far behind. AWC provides LIFE with the perfect vehicle to support participants in their pursuit of a happy, independent life. For more information about our Agency With Choice services, please contact your DDS area office.
